About Lee
I am an award-winning playwright ('Molly' ★★★★ Winner of The Stage Award) and teacher with 10+ years experience of working with writers and students to develop their own plays from initial idea through to first full-length draft, ensuring their plays are ready for submission to theatres, festivals and playwriting competitions. Playwrights I have tutored and supported have gone onto see their work staged at Stratford East Theatre, Soho Theatre, Sherman Theatre, Bush Theatre, Old Red Lion Theatre and VAULT Festival.
I have produced original work with New Diorama Theatre, The Pleasance, Camden People’s Theatre, Old Red Lion, The Cockpit Theatre and Charing Cross Theatre, won The Stage Award in 2015 for my play "Molly" and have 10+ years experience in dramaturgy and script development. My collected plays and theatre-making toolkit, 'Three Plays by Squint and How They Were Made', is published with Bloomsbury.
As Literary Associate with award-winning theatre company, Squint, I have extensive experience when it comes leading on the development of new plays, mentoring writers through the writing and redrafting process and delivering workshops and masterclasses to new and early-career writers. In 2023, I led The Squint Playwriting Award programme in partnership with Stratford East Theatre and Hackney Empire, supporting ten new writers to develop an original play, connecting them to professional opportunities and sharing industry knowledge.
I have worked with the Bush Theatre, Park Theatre and Finborough Theatre as a script-reader and led courses, workshops and masterclasses with Lyric Hammersmith, Arcola Theatre, The Mono Box, University of West London, Guildhall, Birkbeck University of London, Royal Welsh College of Music, Birkbeck University of London and Drama and Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama (US).

Playwriting Tuition:
Whether you’re a new playwright who wants to write your first play, or a more experienced playwright looking to refine the next draft of your play, my sessions are tailored to help you find your voice and bring your play to life with confidence. Students can book a one-off lesson or a block of lesson, to work on developing a full-length play, short-plays, or redrafts.
Drawing on techniques developed through my own work with award-winning theatre company Squint, alongside approaches inspired by leading playwrights including Stephen Jeffreys, lessons focus on uncovering the emotional core and central question driving your work. Together, we’ll explore structure, narrative, character, dialogue, pacing, and the vital role of setting and time, with an emphasis on creating work that feels theatrically alive and distinctive. Lessons can include detailed feedback on your script and specific writing exercises designed to strengthen your craft.
"Lee is a terrific dramaturg. He gave me the exact balance of encouragement and provocation that I needed. I can't recommend him enough" - Brad Birch, playwright and winner of the Harold Pinter Commission 2016
Academic Tuition:
With a first-class degree in English Literature and a Distinction in Text and Performance from Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, an intensive theatre-making programme combining critical theory and creative practice, I offer academic tuition for A Level, undergraduate, and postgraduate students.
My lessons offer practical guidance about how to structure, format, and presenting academic work so it is ready for submission, whilst also enabling students' to cultivate skills in close analysis, critical vocabulary, and engagement with how theatre and literature responds to its broader context. Drawing on both academic training and professional creative experience, I help students produce academic work that is rigorous, perceptive and creatively engaged, whether preparing coursework, dissertations, presentations or portfolios.
LAMDA Exam Preparation:
I offer tailored coaching for LAMDA examinations at all levels, creating relaxed, supportive sessions that help students build confidence while also encouraging them to challenge themselves creatively and technically.
A central part of my approach is working closely with each student to develop a detailed understanding of the texts they are performing. Together, we explore language, character, rhythm, intention, and context, helping students move beyond simply learning lines to developing a confident, personal interpretation of the material. Sessions are designed to strengthen not only performance technique, but also a student’s trust in their own instincts, ideas, and presence as a performer.
Alongside practical rehearsal and performance coaching, lessons can cover vocal clarity, physical expression, textual analysis, and strategies for managing nerves and approaching exams with confidence. My aim is to create an environment where students feel comfortable taking creative risks, stretching their abilities, and ultimately developing into thoughtful, expressive, and self-assured performers.

Perfect! I really enjoyed working with Lee. He was very helpful and supportive throughout the whole process of writing my essay. He explained everything clearly, helped me organize my ideas according to the plan, and gave useful feedback on structure and wording. Thanks to his guidance, the writing process felt much less stressful and much more manageable. I would definitely recommend him to other students looking for help with academic writing.
