About Gillian
Hello, my name is Gillian. I recently earned two Bachelor's degrees in Communication and Professional & Technical Writing and am currently pursuing my Master's in Nonfiction Writing. Creative nonfiction has always been my passion when writing, but I also love to write poetry, academic essays, and fiction. As a student myself, I understand the potential frustrations and rewards of writing and feel passionately about helping writers grow increasingly confident in their abilities. When I'm not writing, taking classes about writing, tutoring writing, or reading about tutoring writing, I enjoy cuddling with my dogs, learning about architecture and design, and playing Stardew Valley. As I explore hobbies, I find that inspiration for writing is everywhere and that there is really no limit to this discipline!

In my 2 years' experience tutoring writing, I've learned that every single writer is different and deserves to be heard. My lessons focus on writers' needs, working cooperatively to bring out each student's inner author.
A typical lesson will include:
- a short consultation period, where students share their work and/or questions that may have arisen in their independent work
- a structured exercise targeting previously discussed points for progress in the students' work
- a review of the exercise and revision period
- general proofreading and editing, putting the polishing touches on the written work and summarizing main takeaways
As a tutor, I believe that adaptability to the student is the most important element of any lesson. Just like when we write, whatever instructional strategy doesn't work can be worked with and revised to communicate ideas more effectively :)
