About Jacob
From the ranks of the Army to the bustling streets of New York, it was a long road that led me to the classroom. If you told 17-year-old Jake as he stood in his first military formation that he would one day be in an English classroom teaching, I think he would take that bet. Though, from every turn in my personal and professional life I learned that what I loved most was leading and educating others. Where better to teach than an English classroom? For literacy has the ability open minds to worlds that would otherwise be left unconsidered.

My methods in tutoring, whether writing or reading, may use a combination of outside mediums (film, music, etc.) to really further the understanding behind literacy. I believe in a "crawl, walk, run, method of tiptoeing our way into a lesson, finding a zone of comfort, and pushing toward a closing goal. I specialize in writing and reading at the 7th grade to collegiate level, having taught at those levels and conducted graduate research. Additionally, I have taught Social Studies / History.
