About Luke
I am a graduate student in theoretical physics at UCLA. From high school and to the end of my college career, I have tutored a wide range of students in subjects ranging from algebra 1 to general relativity. When I was an undergraduate at UCSB, I was employed by the physics department as both an assistant TA for the upper division quantum mechanics course, as well as a general tutor in the physics study room. This employment opportunity required the completion of education coursework in which I learned how to most effectively communicate complex ideas to a variety of different students in an encouraging manner.

I believe in a patient approach to teaching. In my estimation, discouragement provides the biggest obstacle to learning. As students, we are often left with the impression that we are supposed to understand everything immediately, when this is the seldom the case even for professors. In this way, I try to make students comfortable with admitting the things that they don't understand, so that those areas can be emphasized in my instruction. This is a pivotal skill to achieve the level of understanding of course material that is required to succeed in academics.
