About Alyssa
My name is Alyssa, and I’m entering my first year as a medical student at Rush Medical College! While medicine focuses highly on the natural sciences, reading and writing have always been my favorite subjects. I have now been serving as a tutor in these subjects, and helping students find joy in them, for the past 5 years. As a very goal-oriented individual, I enjoy helping students set, meet, and exceed their goals which leads to increased confidence and motivation! When I’m not studying, I enjoy running, hiking, snowboarding, and pretty much anything outdoors!

In my lessons I teach students test-taking strategies that helped me earn high scores on the English/reading portions of the SAT, ACT, and MCAT, I help them master essay structure and development, and I guide them in identifying their learning style. This is important so I can adapt my tips and tricks to meet each student’s needs and help them meet, (and hopefully exceed), their goals!
When I work with students, I start with mastering the foundations which we then build upon to prevent stress and boost confidence. I’ve found that this not only creates a less daunting learning experience, but that many students begin to enjoy subjects they once hated which is ultimately one of my main goals and favorite things about being a tutor!
