About Mei
I prioritize making sure every student feels safe and comfortable with the course material. Sharing some of my own struggles is also a way to set an example and ensure that students can freely and safely express themselves in class. This will also help normalize discussions about race, gender, religion, culture, and socioeconomic identities, which can become a crucial part of critical thinking within a studio art course, and contextualize not only their works, but also themselves within the world.

I work well with both introducing a new medium/method to beginners and helping students refine their work both formally and conceptually. I have previously taught at the college level, but have also helped mentor younger students prepare their portfolios and art school application documents. For beginners, I focus on safety and technique first, so that the students can become comfortable with the medium before they can optimize a method for themselves. While refining a student's work or body of works, I focus on tying together the physical attributes of the work with the conceptual idea behind it to better achieve their goal.
