About Winston
I was born in New Zealand into a musical family and began learning guitar at the age of 7, starting with blues and rock. As I grew older, I explored metal guitar before gradually developing a strong interest in jazz. At 19, I enrolled in the Jazz program at Victoria University of Wellington, where I formally studied jazz guitar and musicianship. While jazz remains a major focus of my playing, I continue to enjoy and teach a range of other styles. Guitar and music have been a lifelong pursuit for me, and I’m passionate about sharing that journey with others in a supportive and encouraging way.

What I offer
Lessons are currently offered online via webcam only. I use clear camera angles, screen sharing, and real-time demonstrations to make lessons effective and engaging.
I’m based in Invercargill and work with students across New Zealand through online lessons.
I teach students from beginner to intermediate level and can cover a wide variety of styles, always tailored to each student’s interests and goals.
For beginners, I provide a relaxed and supportive learning environment, focusing on essential chords, rhythm, timing, and proper technique to build a strong foundation.
For intermediate players, lessons can include improvisation, music theory, fretboard knowledge, chord extensions, stylistic vocabulary, and developing confidence when playing with others.
Lessons are structured but flexible, with a strong focus on musical understanding, creativity, and long-term enjoyment of the instrument.
