About Nidhi

With a musical journey that began at the age of six, I have grown into a multifaceted artist — a pianist, music producer, composer, and passionate educator. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Music with Upper Second-Class Honours from Middlesex University, London, where I explored diverse facets of the field including music therapy, songwriting, music business, and scoring for film and video games.

My early training in classical music was shaped by achieving Grade 8 in Piano Performance from Trinity College, London, a milestone that paved the way for deeper musical exploration. I further enriched my skills at Dr. A. R. Rahman’s KM Music Conservatory in Chennai, where I earned a Diploma in Music. My time there was truly transformative — both creatively and personally — and I had the incredible opportunity to be part of one of Dr. Rahman's projects, which remains a cherished highlight in my career.

As an educator, I’ve been teaching piano and music since 2017, striving to pass on not just technique but a genuine love for music. Whether preparing students for exams, nurturing their creativity, or helping them find their voice through performance, my goal is always to empower them as both musicians and individuals.

Beyond teaching, I compose and arrange music for short films and media, and I’m also part of a growing all-women girl band — a space where collaboration and creativity flourish. One of my most meaningful experiences was being involved in a music therapy research project supporting Ukrainian refugees affected by trauma and PTSD, which deepened my belief in the healing power of music.

I’ve had the joy of hosting my first student piano recital, with children performing confidently on a grand piano — a moment that symbolised growth, connection, and the magic of music education. None of these experiences would have been possible without the unwavering support of my parents, who have stood by me through every phase of this journey.

My story was also featured in The New Indian Express — "Keys to Happiness" — highlighting my passion and commitment to using music as a tool for transformation. ((concealed information)

Today, as I continue to evolve as an artist and educator, my mission remains the same: to share the joy, discipline, and depth of music, and to guide others in finding their own musical voice.

  • 1. Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

My subject is music, specifically piano performance, composition, and music production. I developed an interest in music at a very young age - the piano especially fascinated me. Over time, this interest evolved into a deeper curiosity about how music can be created, structured, and used to tell stories or evoke emotion. I pursued formal training, completing my 8th grade in Piano Performance from Trinity College London, followed by a Diploma in Music and a BA (Honors) in Music.

As I explored different genres and started scoring for short films, I began to truly appreciate how music can not only enhance a scene emotionally but also connect with people on a deeply personal level. I became more aware of its therapeutic qualities - how it can comfort, heal, and give voice to emotions that words often fail to express. This understanding has been a strong influence in my journey, and it continues to inspire me as I delve deeper into areas like music for screen and music therapy.
  • 2. What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

Teaching came naturally to me because I wanted to share the joy, discipline, and creative freedom music has given me. My mother is a teacher, so I suppose the knack for teaching runs in the family. Watching her dedication growing up definitely inspired me. My own piano teachers also played a huge role in shaping not just my musical abilities but my patience, confidence, and self-expression.

What truly motivates me is how much I learn through each lesson I teach. Every student brings a fresh perspective, and sometimes a single question can open up an entirely new area of music I hadn't thought about. Teaching isn't just about passing on knowledge - it's also about constantly learning, evolving, and growing alongside your students.

Moreover, music itself is such a powerful tool. Studies show that learning and engaging with music stimulates new connections in the brain, helping keep our cognitive abilities sharp and our memories alive. That makes the process of teaching music even more meaningful - it's not just artistic, it's scientifically beneficial and deeply human. Over the past 6 years, teaching has become more than a profession for me - it's a way of giving back and staying connected to something much larger.
  • 3. How does your work help society?

Music education contributes significantly to personal and emotional development - not just in children, but across all age groups. It encourages discipline, self-expression, empathy, focus, and confidence. Through my work, I've seen shy individuals transform into expressive performers and students of all ages use music as a safe space to process and communicate their emotions.

I've also had the opportunity to work with neurodivergent children, and it's been incredibly rewarding to witness the positive changes music can bring. Even simple musical engagement can support attention, emotional regulation, social interaction, and non-verbal communication. It provides these children with a unique and joyful way to connect with the world around them.

Beyond that, music has scientifically proven benefits - it enhances language development, improves memory, boosts creativity, fosters emotional expression, and even aids in developing physical coordination and motor skills. It also stimulates new neural connections in the brain, supporting cognitive health and keeping minds active and engaged.

On a societal level, music brings people together, builds community, and promotes mental well-being. This is something I care deeply about, especially as I explore music therapy and film scoring as tools for healing and storytelling. Music is not just an art form - it's a powerful, transformative force that supports growth, healing, and human connection throughout life.
  • 4. If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

I wouldn't say I have a single role model - for me, the true inspiration is music itself. It's the sheer power of music to move, heal, and connect people that drives me. I have an ardent desire to be really good at what I do - to honour the gift I've been given. I believe that music is something God placed in me for a reason, and it's my responsibility to nurture that gift, maximise its potential, and share whatever it yields for the betterment of society.

That said, if I had to name someone whose journey resonates with me, it would be A. R. Rahman. Not just for his musical genius, but for the way he humbly uses music to transcend boundaries of language, culture, and emotion. Studying at his KM Music Conservatory was a transformative experience for me. His work reminds me that music can be spiritual, cinematic, and deeply healing - and that one can be both an artist and an educator with purpose.
  • 5. Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy composing and arranging music, especially for short films and screen-based projects. I also love traveling and exploring new places - it gives me fresh perspective and creative inspiration. I've recently taken an interest in learning new languages, and I've been enjoying Italian on Duolingo!

I like to read in my free time - not necessarily academic books, but anything that sparks curiosity or gives me a break from routine. And every now and then, you'll find me dancing - just for fun! It's one of those joyful, spontaneous ways I like to unwind and connect with myself.
  • 6. Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

There are a few experiences that have deeply shaped my journey so far. One of the most meaningful was being part of a music therapy research project that worked with Ukrainian refugees affected by trauma and PTSD. Collaborating with psychologists and music therapists, we used music-based interventions with families, and it was incredible to witness how music helped create a sense of safety, bonding, and emotional release in such a fragile setting. That experience truly reinforced my belief in the healing power of music.

On a different note, I recently hosted my first student piano recital - with children performing confidently on a grand piano and proudly showcasing their repertoire. Watching their growth and joy on stage was incredibly fulfilling, a moment that made all the behind-the-scenes effort feel worthwhile.

And then there's my girl band - still in its early stages, but already such a fulfilling creative outlet. We're learning, growing, and enjoying the ride together. None of these moments - from research to recitals to band rehearsals - would have been possible without the constant support of my parents. They've been the backbone of everything I do, cheering me on in every direction I choose.
