About Andrea
I have been inspiring students through written expression for over twenty years by allowing them to explore their ideas freely, and write about any topic that they are passionate about. As an individual tutor, I pay close attention to the assignment they are given and use my toolbox of techniques to work with them on the assignment. Students are my top priority, and their individual writing styles and needs are closely addressed. Writing inspires and enriches people's lives along with enhancing their communication skills in the workforce. Since the workforce correspondences are primarily through email, it is vital to be the best writer a person can be and I am passionately ready to do that!

Teaching methods include the typical academic essay called the 3.5 Essay Model, effective pre-writing techniques, building effective introductions and conclusions, critical reading skills on relevant articles, and research skills that entail appropriate citations. The bulk of my experience is college teaching, so here is a typical lesson in an ENG101 class.
A typical lesson process would be providing a writing prompt such as "Write a Definition Essay on friendship"
1) Complete a focused free writing assignment about what friendship means to the student
2) Complete a brainstorming assignment listing one word ideas on the topic of friendship
3) Take the ideas written down and choose three ideas that they feel are the strongest
4) Complete an outline of the essay
5) Complete the first draft
What sets me apart as a tutor is the ability to focus on the student's individual writing needs. I go above and beyond to accomodate those needs by providing resources and extra material that will benefit them.
