About Laurie
I have taught in the UK, in both grammar and comprehensive schools. I have also taught in schools in Japan, the UAE and Vietnam, where I currently teach at the British International School of Ho Chi Minh City. I currently teach English (KS3, IGCSE and IBDP) and Theory of Knowledge (IBDP). I hold a first-class degree in English (Queen Mary, University of London), a PGCE in English (King's College London) and a Master of Science degree in Learning and Teaching (University of Oxford). I also hold the National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordinators, qualifying me as a SENCO.

With over 20 years of experience teaching in UK state and international schools, I am a fully qualified UK secondary school English teacher, a certified SENCO, and hold a Master's degree from Oxford University. You can be confident that your learning is in expert hands. I believe in modeling the style of writing students aspire to develop, breaking down techniques to show exactly how they can refine and improve their work. When teaching literature, I guide students to analyze themes and characterization, ensuring they can clearly articulate their understanding. Expanding relevant vocabulary and making meaningful connections between key events and characters are integral to our discussions. As a qualified SENCO, I am experienced in supporting students with special educational needs, particularly those requiring additional literacy support. I tailor my approach to help every student build confidence and achieve success.
