About Letícia
I am a computer scientist with a master’s degree in Theoretical Computer Science from the University of São Paulo (2013) in Brazil. I am now an Instructor at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). All my years in postsecondary education, both as a student and as an instructor, have allowed me to be exposed to, teach, and study at a high level a wealth of subjects that have enabled me to develop technical expertise as well as instructional excellence. Through a track record of six years working as a postsecondary instructor (both in Brazil and in Canada), I have learned to leverage my strong communication and presentation skills to structure intellectually stimulating lectures that use practical applications to encourage critical and analytical thinking. As an instructor, I always strive to be attentive to students’ learning shortcomings and to tailor my teaching methods to help students achieve their potential. My purpose is to nurture a respectful and inclusive learning environment that arouses the students’ curiosity and allows them to engage in the fruitful pursuit of ideas.

- My teaching methods are competency, inquiry, and problem-based. That means: 1) I always strive to impart to my students the core skills that they need to master in order to assimilate the material, 2) I like to engage with students and encourage participation by asking and answering probing questions, and 3) I propose and explore practical targeted exercises to track and assess their progress. - My classes usually revolve around one or two topics. I strongly avoid cramming too much information in a single class. I begin by outlining the agenda and goals of the class, and, if necessary, I patiently take some time reviewing preliminary concepts. After that, I introduce the main topics of the class at first in an informal way by discussing real-world situations that exemplify their relevance. Moving on, I delve into the technicalities related to the topics of the class and I convey them to my students in accessible terms. Now, to be able to gauge their understanding, I suggest exercises of varying degrees of difficulty, and later on I solve these exercises with them using a bottom-up Socratic approach. Lastly, I finish the class by briefly summarizing all the topics that were covered. - My lessons are mainly directed at college/undergraduate/master's students in IT/COMPSCI/STEM courses
