Victoria is a highly intelligent , empathic and very talented Artist and Person. I would have no hesitation in recommending her as an educator, her grasp of Painting, Film, Art and Literature is profound. Victoria is a great communicator and operates at a very high level, her life experience also means that her aptitude for pastoral care is very high. I am writing in my capacity as Senior Lecturer in Painting at Wimbledon College of Arts. I have known Victoria for four years, initially as a student on the BA (Hons) Fine Art Painting programme at Wimbledon College of Art and I have followed her development as an artist at Turps School and at The Slade, University College London. I am also the Stage 3 Co-ordinator for all final year painting students and in this role I oversee the academic progress of the final year painting students as they work towards their degree show exhibitions.

Victoria joined the Fine Art Painting programme in September 2014 and graduated from Wimbledon College of Arts in in July 2017. In the period indicated I witnessed first hand how her studio work developed academically and I feel that I am qualified to provide this reference.

Victoria Cantons was a highly committed student in Painting, highly ambitious for the work and she was a constant presence within the studio. On the BA course Victoria was active and present – notable in her attendance at everything on offer and her willingness to engage. There was always in tutorials a consistent commitment to open dialogue and a generous attitude to community had a positive effect on her peers. The work that she was producing was of a high standard and Victoria was awarded a BA (Hons) Fine Art Painting Upper Second.

Her painting practice continued to be nurtured at Post-Degree after she was selected for the Turps School and then she was awarded in the next year to The Slade, where she is currently studying. Victoria Cantons was a hard-working student and her attendance on the programme was always excellent. Victoria was a constant presence in the studio and central to events organised by Painting. Victoria herself often initiated events and took on an active interest in broadening her practice through gallery visits and participatory practice. To the best of my knowledge she never missed an individual or group tutorial, lecture or seminar. She was a pleasure to teach as she listens attentively and responds positively to the support given. Her contributions in group tutorials and critiques are always informed, considered and thoughtful. She is very approachable and was a great help in creating a condusive working environment here at Wimbledon.

Victoria possesses all the qualities a student requires to succeed on. professional level and I have no doubt that she will continue to make work of the highest standard.
