About Barney
In 2014 I graduated with a 2:1 in History from Brunel University London. Following my graduation I spent time travelling and working in sales before moving to Shanghai to teach English in 2017. During my time in China I taught both groups and individuals ranging in age from 5 - 17.
Other relevant experience includes volunteering in an historical research project for Bristol City Council. Here I undertook primary research on the history of Ashton Court Estate to help tell the story of the buildings, the Smyths family who resided there and the people who worked for them.

I have an enthusiastic and open approach to teaching, covering the 18th Century right up to the late 20th Century. I encourage students to think critically and develop their own ideas, this is especially important when studying History. As well as learning and making sense of grand narratives I will ensure my students get in the habit of questioning and analysing said narratives, which will help them get those higher marks. I also think it's important that students enjoy what they are learning and so I am mindful of how I can make each lesson interesting for different individuals.
