As a senior at The Buckley School graduating in May, I understand firsthand the challenges students face in advanced and AP-level courses. My goal as a tutor is to make complex material feel manageable, clear, and even enjoyable. Because I am still immersed in rigorous academics myself, my explanations are relatable, up-to-date, and tailored to how students are currently being taught in high school classrooms.
My teaching method is structured but flexible. I begin by identifying exactly where a student feels stuck — whether it’s foundational gaps, test anxiety, time management, or specific advanced concepts. I break down difficult material into clear, step-by-step explanations, then reinforce understanding through guided practice. I focus heavily on building confidence, because I believe students perform best when they truly understand the “why” behind what they are learning.
A typical lesson begins with a quick review of previous material to ensure retention. We then move into the current topic, where I explain concepts in simple terms, model example problems, and work through practice questions together. I gradually shift responsibility to the student so they can apply the material independently. We also review test-taking strategies, essay structuring (if applicable), and effective study techniques tailored to advanced and AP coursework.
What sets me apart is that I have recently taken advanced and AP classes myself, so I understand both the academic expectations and the pressure students feel. I offer practical strategies that helped me succeed, from organizing notes effectively to approaching AP-style questions with confidence. I create a supportive, judgment-free environment where students feel comfortable asking questions.
My lessons are ideal for middle school and high school students, particularly those enrolled in honors, advanced, or AP courses who want to strengthen their understanding, improve grades, and build long-term academic confidence.
