About Joshua
Early in high school, I seriously struggled with math and science, and I thought that I was stupid and worthless. I not only remember the concepts I struggled with, but also which things could've been better explained by my own teachers.
As a tutor, I emphasize a few things:
1. Regardless of your performance in any class, your value as a human being is not diminished in any way, and you are deserving of love and validation.
2. You should be proud of yourself regardless of the grade you receive.
3. It's perfectly fine to struggle with a given topic, regardless of how "easy" it seems. No Math is easy. I'm only good at it because I've already endured the pain and difficulty.

I am very empathetic, and I am good at recognizing when a student is struggling with a specific topic, as well as what they're struggling with. I also emphasize study tactics, so students will eventually be able to learn independently. While a student is working through a given problem, I may ask questions to trigger mathematical intuition or to force a conceptual understanding. I also encourage repetition so students can more easily remember how to solve a given problem.
