About Liam
I am a current high school student who has won numerous academic recognitions for my abilities, and strives to help others. I currently am a volunteer math tutor at the Calgary Public Library for a program that is tailored to help students who may not be able to afford academic assistance receive it. Furthermore, I myself have struggled academically in the past when I was younger, so I can relate to clients on their academic struggles in a more direct manner.

I am a current grade 12 high school student who strives to provide cost-effective academic support to others. I tend to follow an approach that focuses on filling gaps between foundational knowledge and secondary concepts, while providing alternative perspectives on curriculum content. A typical session for a math/science student would initially start with a review of assigned homework, followed by a portion where the student would solve/answer a few questions, while verbally explaining every step they are doing to me. This allows me to identify their thought patterns and identify any flaws in their approach. Following this, I will teach the student the content that I prepared for them in advance for the day. We would go over a few examples, and I would assign the remainder for homework. A typical session for an English student would initially start with a review of the assigned homework, followed by a portion where I and the student would read a text together, and unpack elements of the text together (i.e. motif, literary devices, tone, syntax, etc.). Following this, I would assign a reading for the student to do independently, with assigned questions to answer for homework. I differ from other tutors in the sense that I use an approach focused on the knowledge that the student currently knows, rather than attempting to rebuild their foundational knowledge entirely. This approach usually can generate a quicker result (dependent on the student), as we would not spend much time on what the student already knows and is strong in. These lessons are being offered specifically for grades 5-9, but I can accommodate grades 10/11 and grades 3/4 on a case basis. I myself am in grade 12, so I cannot offer lessons on grade 12 content, as I myself have not learned it yet. Furthermore, I myself am in school, and understand the struggles that students can face within a classroom environment directly. Lessons will be listed at $18/hour, but the price can be negotiated.
