About Therese
With nine years of experience teaching guitar and a Bachelor of Music Education focused on guitar, I bring a balance of precision, passion, and playfulness to every lesson. My goal is to help you develop into a guitarist who plays with both skill and soul. Technique is a huge part of what we’ll cover: picking accuracy, chord transitions, scale fluency, and rhythmic confidence. But technique is always in service of something greater—musical storytelling. From the very beginning, you’ll be encouraged to bring your emotions into your music. Whether we’re exploring blues, indie, classical, or composing original melodies, I guide students in shaping sound into feeling. Learning becomes more personal and more meaningful that way. Lessons are always adapted to your goals. Want to master lead guitar? Write your own songs? Understand modes and harmony? You’ll have clear goals, a strong learning path, and my support every step of the way. I believe music is for everyone and every mood. My guitar teaching approach focuses on three pillars: technique, emotion, and innovation. With over nine years of teaching and a music education degree centered on guitar, I provide a complete learning experience for students who want to grow their skills and deepen their connection to music.
We start with solid technique—hand positioning, strumming and picking patterns, chord shapes, and basic finger independence. These fundamentals are non-negotiable. But once those are in place, we move quickly into expressive playing. That includes dynamics, phrasing, tone control, and improvisational thinking.
To support creativity, I weave theory into each lesson. Students learn chord progressions, scales, and harmony not just as facts, but as tools for songwriting, improvising, and interpretation. I encourage creative play, giving space for students to write, explore, and experiment.
Technology supports this journey. I incorporate backing tracks, tablature software, metronome apps, and recording platforms to enhance both in-lesson work and home practice. These tools allow students to hear themselves improve, explore new sounds, and even share their work.
Whether you want to master Bach or build an original solo, my teaching adjusts to your goals. With structure and freedom, discipline and joy, we turn effort into artistry—together.
