About Baukje
I am a passionate and experienced Secondary Humanities Teacher with over 16 years of experience in education. Throughout my career, I have always believed that meaningful learning begins with trust, structure and strong relationships.
I chose to become a teacher because I genuinely care about how young people develop, not only academically, but also personally. I enjoy helping students discover that they are capable of more than they initially believe. Seeing a student grow in confidence, clarity and independence is what motivates me every day.
Beyond subject knowledge, I value critical thinking, perspective-taking and structured reasoning. History and Geography are not just school subjects, they help students understand the world, question information and form their own informed opinions.
As a mentor and coach, I have spent many years guiding students through important academic transitions. I understand that every student is different. Some need structure, some need challenge, and some simply need someone who truly listens and believes in them.
Teaching, for me, is not just a profession, it is a responsibility and a privilege.

My lessons are built on trust, structure and clear academic progress. I believe students learn best when they feel seen, understood and supported. I create a safe and focused environment where students feel confident to ask questions, think critically and challenge themselves.
With over 16 years of full-time teaching experience in secondary education, combined with extensive experience as a student mentor and coach, I bring both academic rigour and personal guidance to my tutoring. I do not simply explain subject content, I teach students how to think, analyse and structure their answers effectively.
In Humanities subjects, success is not about memorising facts. It is about understanding connections, recognising cause and consequence, working with evidence, and developing strong analytical writing skills. My lessons therefore focus on:
- Breaking down complex topics into clear, manageable steps
- Analysing questions accurately and understanding what is really being asked
- Structuring longer answers clearly and logically
- Working confidently with sources and evidence
- Developing critical thinking and independent reasoning
- Improving academic writing and argumentation
- Building confidence and strong study skills
Each lesson typically lasts 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the student’s age and goals. Sessions usually include a review of current school material, clear explanation of key concepts, guided practice with feedback, and practical strategies that students can immediately apply in their schoolwork or examinations. I work with measurable goals and clear academic targets to ensure steady progress.
I hold Bachelor degrees in History, Geography, and Education & Communication, and I have extensive experience teaching examination classes. For 13 years, I also served as a First-Year Mentor, supporting students academically and personally during important transition years. I have worked with diverse and multicultural student groups and understand how to adapt my teaching to different learning styles and needs.
My lessons are designed for secondary school students (approximately ages 12–18) who need support in History or Geography, are preparing for assessments or examinations, or want to strengthen their academic writing, analytical skills and confidence.
My goal is not only to improve grades, but to help students become confident, structured and independent learners who understand how to approach their studies effectively.
