About Rory
A qualified and experienced linguist, I offer language classes in French and Italian to all levels. I also offer beginners Spanish to B1 level.
I graduated from Durham University with a BA (Hons) in French and Italian with Spanish. After graduation, I spent a year as a graduate teaching assistant in France at Limoges University teaching English grammar, phonetics, civilisation and literature to French undergraduate students. I then completed an MA in Interpreting and Translation at the University of Bath.
I have experience teaching languages across the world (Peru, France, Spain, Italy, UK) to primary and secondary school students but also in higher education establishments.
I offer lessons to students and adult learners of all levels whether you're a complete beginner, studying for GCSES/ A Levels or an advanced learner.
I also offer translation, proof reading and editing services.

My teaching aims to increase fluency in the four main skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. More specifically, my lessons put French learning into context: I incorporate real-life scenarios and we use the language as a springboard to discuss Francophone culture, news and current affairs into all my lessons. This could take the form of analysing song lyrics, looking at trends on social media (TikTok, memes) or discussing Francophone media and sport. In doing students learn to use their language skills acquired to enhance their cultural awareness of the French-speaking world.
I aim to tailor my lessons to the student's individual interests and needs which will be discussed before the first session.
I encourage students to pause the lesson whenever to ask questions and I provide regular feedback for students to see their progress.
