About Amir Ali
I am a PhD-qualified Biological Scientist with over 12 years of teaching experience at both university and secondary school levels. Having taught GCSE, A-Level, and degree-level Biology, I understand how to explain complex topics clearly, break them down into manageable steps, and support students to achieve their academic goals. My approach is structured, engaging, and tailored to each learner’s needs. I use proven methods such as retrieval practice, exam-style questioning, and visual learning tools to strengthen understanding and boost long-term memory. Every lesson starts with a short review of prior knowledge, builds on this with carefully scaffolded explanations, and ends with consolidation activities to ensure lasting progress. A typical session is 60 minutes, though longer lessons can be arranged for exam preparation or in-depth revision. Alongside teaching, I provide targeted feedback, personalised study strategies, and exam tips that help students not only improve grades but also gain confidence in their learning. With my background as a PhD researcher, Assistant Professor in Stem Cells, and current UK school teacher (PGCE with QTS), I combine academic expertise with real classroom experience. I specialise in supporting GCSE and A-Level Biology students aged 14–18, particularly those preparing for important exams or aspiring to progress into medicine, dentistry, or biomedical sciences. I believe that every student learns differently, so I adapt my teaching to individual needs, abilities, and goals. My lessons are interactive, structured, and designed to build both subject knowledge and exam confidence. I use a range of evidence-informed techniques such as retrieval practice and exam-style questions to ensure knowledge is retained and applied effectively. I also break down complex topics into simple, visual explanations, supporting students with tailored resources and regular feedback. Lesson Format A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes and each session starts with a short review of prior knowledge, followed by guided teaching of new concepts, interactive problem-solving, and a summary that consolidates learning. I provide follow-up tasks to reinforce retention. Qualifications & Experience I hold a PhD in Stem Cell Proteomics (University of Leeds) and a BSc (Hons) in Human Genetics, with over 12 years of university-level teaching experience in Biological and Biomedical Sciences, as well as current teaching experience in UK secondary schools as part of my PGCE with QTS. I have taught and mentored hundreds of students at GCSE, A-Level, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels, many of whom have gone on to achieve excellent academic results.
