About Alaina
My Teaching Method & Techniques
My tutoring approach is patient, encouraging, and personalized to each student. I understand that K–12 students learn at different speeds and in different ways, so I adjust my teaching style based on their age, grade level, learning needs, and confidence.
I break difficult topics into smaller, easier-to-understand steps and use examples, practice problems, visual aids, and repetition when helpful. I encourage students to ask questions and make mistakes because mistakes are an important part of learning. My goal is not just to help students finish their homework, but to help them actually understand the material and feel more confident in their abilities.
A Typical Lesson
A typical lesson begins with a quick review of what the student is currently learning and identifying anything they are having difficulty with. We then focus on the specific skill or topic that needs the most attention.
I explain the concept step-by-step, work through examples with the student, and then let them practice independently while I provide guidance when needed. We finish by reviewing what they learned and identifying anything they may want to practice before the next lesson.
For younger students, I incorporate more visual examples, games, activities, and hands-on learning to keep lessons engaging. For older students, I focus more on study strategies, organization, problem-solving, and preparing for tests and assignments.
What Sets Me Apart
I strive to make tutoring a comfortable and positive experience. Some students may feel frustrated or nervous when they don't understand something, so I make sure they know that it's completely okay to ask questions and take their time.
I focus on building both understanding and confidence. I want students to eventually feel comfortable tackling problems independently instead of feeling like they always need someone to give them the answer.

My lessons are designed for K–12 students who need extra academic support, including students who:
- Need help understanding a difficult topic
- Want additional homework support
- Are preparing for quizzes or tests
- Need to catch up on missed material
- Want to strengthen their academic skills
- Need help developing better study habits
- Learn at a different pace than their classroom environment allows
Lessons can be adapted to the student's grade level, current classwork, learning style, academic goals, and individual needs. My goal is to meet each student where they are and help them move forward one step at a time.
