About Mary
Hi, I’m Mary! I hold a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in History from Newcastle University and am preparing to begin my master’s degree in History. I achieved a Grade 9 in GCSE History and an A* at A-Level, and I have over a year of experience tutoring GCSE and A-Level students.
I began tutoring because I am passionate about History and enjoy helping students make sense of topics that may initially feel complicated or overwhelming. I am chatty, patient and approachable, and I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, discussing different interpretations and developing their own opinions.
History is not simply about remembering dates and facts. It is about understanding change, analysing evidence and constructing convincing arguments. My aim is to help students improve their knowledge and exam performance while developing confidence, independence and a genuine interest in the past.

My lessons are relaxed, supportive and tailored to each student’s individual needs. I work with GCSE and A-Level History students, helping them strengthen their subject knowledge, source analysis, essay writing and exam technique.
Lessons are typically one hour long and may include interactive discussion, visual resources, timelines, retrieval activities, source evaluation, essay planning and practice exam questions. I break complex topics and difficult questions into manageable steps, helping students understand how events connect rather than simply memorising isolated facts.
I have over a year of experience tutoring GCSE and A-Level students across History, English Literature and Religious Studies. I help students construct clear arguments, select relevant evidence, make supported judgements and understand exactly what examiners are looking for. My aim is to make History enjoyable and accessible while helping every student become a more confident and independent learner.
