About Nikita
I have a love for teaching and working with students of all ages. I make it a priority to get to know each of my students and understand what barriers there are to being successful in the classroom. I understand what it's like to struggle in a class, and feel so far behind that it seems impossible to catch up. I believe that empathy makes me a better teacher. I have diverse experiences that make me qualified to help you meet your goals for success. (1) I spent a year teaching children ages 7-14 the basics of programming. (2) For three years in college, I was a teaching assistant for college freshmen. I developed lesson plans for and taught weekly discussion sections. In addition to that, I led several weekly office hours where I could provide more individualized support. (3) Additionally, I have spent the last two years volunteering with organizations and schools in my local community to lead robotics clubs for 2nd graders or tutor a middle schooler in math. (4) Finally, I also have a strong academic background that will allow me to help you meet your goals. I graduated with an honors degree in computer science from UT Austin.

My experience teaching has taught me that one of the strongest factors for success is developing a strong relationship where students feel empowered in their own ability to succeed.
My teaching methods align with inquiry-based learning where I allow students to guide the lesson rather than having the lessons dictated by a predetermined plan. I've found this allows me to help explore weak spots in content knowledge that I might have otherwise missed.
I will generally start a typical tutoring session by getting to know the student and then going through some recent homework or problems they have been struggling with in class. From there, we can collaborate on how to move forward with tutoring sessions, whether that means going through homework, covering topics visited in class, or something else we both agree would be beneficial.
My background knowledge and experience working with a diverse group of ages gives me the confidence to tutor the following subject areas and ages.
Elementary:
- Math: grades 2-5 math
- Science: grades 3-5 science
Middle:
- Math: grades 6-8 math
- Computer Science: all computer science
High:
- Math: pre-algebra, Algebra I/II, pre-calculus, calculus AB/BC, multivariable calculus
- Computer Science: all computer science
- Physics: physics 1 (algebra-based), physics C (calculus-based, mechanics only)
College:
- Computer Science: intro programming course (any major), data structures, computer architecture, operating systems
- Math: calculus, multivariable calculus

Nikita truly wants to see her students succeed. As someone who struggles a lot in math, Nikita never once made me feel like I wasn’t capable (she tutored me for calculus). When I could barely grasp what my actual teacher taught, she was great at explaining rules and concepts in ways that I could understand. One specific thing Nikita does that I appreciate is that she wouldn’t just tell me what the answers were; instead, she would help me understand the steps I needed to go through in order to solve a problem. Ended up finishing with an A in calculus!
