About Joshua
I've been tutoring math and science since I was 16 and hold an Honors BSc in Biology from Concordia University.
Over the years, I've worked with students at different levels, but I particularly enjoy helping CEGEP and university students with courses like calculus, physics and chemistry.
My teaching style is highly conversational. I ask a lot of questions, use analogies and diagrams, and try to understand how the student is thinking rather than simply showing them a solution and moving on.
I'm especially useful for students who feel like they are capable of understanding the material but have fallen behind, accumulated gaps, or find that their professor's explanation isn't clicking.
Outside tutoring, my background includes biology, entrepreneurship and B2B sales. Those experiences have made me comfortable explaining complicated ideas clearly and adapting how I communicate depending on the person in front of me.
I also played competitive hockey growing up and play music, so I tend to approach learning the same way I approach any skill: understand the fundamentals, practice deliberately, identify weaknesses and improve them one at a time.

Most students who struggle in math or physics aren't bad at the subject. Usually, they're missing one or two ideas from earlier in the course, and everything new builds on those gaps.
My job is to find those gaps quickly, rebuild the underlying concepts, and then show you how they connect to the problems you're actually being tested on.
I teach directly from your course material: your slides, textbook, assignments, online homework system and previous exams. I don't use a generic curriculum that only loosely matches what you're doing in class.
A typical session looks like this:
Identify exactly where you're getting stuck
Explain the concept intuitively before introducing the equations
Work through problems together
Gradually have you take over more of the solution
Focus on the types of questions you're most likely to see on assignments and exams
I tutor high school, CEGEP and university-level students in calculus, algebra, physics, mechanics, chemistry and related science courses.
My goal isn't just to get you through one homework problem. It's to get you to the point where you understand why the method works and can recognize what to do when the question looks different on the exam.
Nobody is inherently bad at math or physics. Usually, something just hasn't clicked yet.
