About Michael
My name is Michael; I have taught Mathematics in various countries for over 30 years now. To me Mathematics is a language, in fact it's the only universal language. I was born in South Africa and have travelled extensively. For the past 20 years have been teaching in New Zealand, currently in Auckland. I enjoy the outdoors, am a keen sportsperson and a father of two young adults. I enjoy playing the great game of Bridge - a card game that I encourage anyone and everyone to learn. It's a style of thinking and a card language that marries well with the disciplines of Mathematics. My overall approach is to very early on, remove the negative "stigma" that has unfortunately dominated and infected learners throughout the generations and ages and to replace it with a graphical picture rather than just an analytical and algebraic manipulation of symbols. If you can see the graph or picture in the abstract symbols then the battle is already won. Mathematical growth is a way of seeing and appreciating the beauty of the abstract and translating it into a meaningful pattern and picture. Let me help you find your confidence and independent mathematical learning style - onwards to self-discipline and the wow-factor.

As an experienced mathematics teacher, I understand the virtues of patience, optimism, honesty, integrity, pride in one's efforts and genuine care for progress and the well-being of the student in focus. I enjoy tutoring with a disciplined and yet fun-filled approach where students always feel at ease and aware of the high expectations I have for them for each session and the next. A strong foundation is important and can take time, but once confidence and self-belief kick in, your pace of learning and interest becomes exponential and unstoppable in the most inspirational way. The understanding and mastering of the concept of the exponential curve is the most important concept you can ever imagine. Slow, steady and consistent daily efforts will eventually be your speedy road to permanent success - and not only in a subject like Mathematics. I look enthusiastically forward to working with and for you.
