About Manjot

Welcome to my profile-- my name is Manjot — a Registered Nurse with a background in both healthcare and education. I have passion for helping nursing students succeed as I was a former teacher. I know how overwhelming and important nursing school can feel, whether you're learning fundamentals, diving into pharmacology, or trying to master clinical judgment for the NCLEX. I've been there, and I’m here to break things down in a way that actually sticks. My approach is calm, supportive, and all about real understanding — not just memorizing facts. I’ll help you make sense of complicated concepts, connect theory to practice, and build your confidence step by step. Whether you're struggling with care plans, prioritization, or just need someone to talk through a tricky topic with — I’ve got you. Let’s make nursing school a little less stressful (and even fun!).

We’ll start by reviewing what you’re currently learning and where you're feeling stuck. I want to understand what’s most urgent for you — whether it’s a topic, assignment, or upcoming test. We will then breakdown the Topic-- I’ll explain key concepts in a simple, clear way using real-life examples from clinical settings. I will provide resources and study guides custom to your needs. Whether we’re reviewing disease processes, pharmacology, or lab values, I focus on helping you understand *why* something works, not just memorizing facts. Guided Practice We’ll walk through practice questions together (often NCLEX-style), create mnemonics, diagrams, or go over care plans and rationales. I’ll ask questions as we go to help reinforce critical thinking. Active Recall & Wrap-Up We’ll finish with a few review questions or a mini quiz to make sure everything stuck. I’ll also give you tips on what to focus on between sessions — including any helpful resources or study strategies. --- I help students with fun mnemonics, diagrams, and the small details to help you drill down the bigger picture. Remember-- it's not about memorizing everything but understanding concepts in a way that YOU will understand! :)

Find out more about Manjot

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in the nursing field solidified during my undergraduate studies in Biology at the University of St. Thomas Houston. The rigorous science coursework provided a strong foundation, but it was the clinical experiences during my accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (DABSN) program at Baylor that truly ignited my passion. Witnessing the direct impact of skilled nursing care on patient outcomes was incredibly rewarding. My journey into private tutoring naturally evolved from this passion for nursing. During my three years as a teacher, I discovered a genuine joy in breaking down complex concepts and empowering students to grasp challenging material. I realized that one-on-one or small group tutoring could provide a more personalized and supportive learning environment, especially in demanding fields like nursing.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I primarily tutor in nursing coursework, focusing on fundamental concepts and advanced clinical topics. Key areas include:

Pathophysiology: Understanding the mechanisms of disease processes is crucial, and I enjoy helping students connect theory to practice.
Pharmacology: Mastering drug actions, interactions, and safe administration is essential for nurses. I emphasize critical thinking and patient safety in this area.
Medical-Surgical Nursing: This encompasses a wide range of conditions and interventions. I like to focus on prioritizing care, assessment skills, and developing sound clinical judgment.
Critical Care Nursing: For more advanced students, I delve into hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, and complex patient scenarios.
I particularly enjoy discussing topics that require critical thinking and application of knowledge, such as:

Case studies: These help students integrate various concepts and simulate real-world situations.
NCLEX preparation: Developing test-taking strategies and content review to help students succeed in their licensure exams.
While all topics are important, I find that some students struggle more with highly theoretical subjects that seem disconnected from practice. However, I believe that even these can be made engaging by using relevant examples and emphasizing their clinical significance.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I've been fortunate to have several inspiring teachers throughout my academic journey. One nursing professor, in particular, stands out. She had a remarkable ability to make complex physiological processes understandable and relevant. She fostered a classroom environment that encouraged questions and critical thinking, and she genuinely cared about our success. Her passion for nursing was contagious, and she instilled in me the importance of lifelong learning and patient advocacy. I strive to emulate her dedication and commitment to student success in my own tutoring practice.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

In my experience, the qualities of an effective tutor go beyond simply having expertise in the subject matter. Essential qualities include:

Patience and Empathy: Recognizing that each student learns at their own pace and may face unique challenges.
Clear Communication: Explaining complex concepts in a way that is easy to understand, using various teaching strategies.
Active Listening: Paying attention to the student's questions and concerns, and adapting the tutoring approach accordingly.
Encouragement and Motivation: Building confidence and fostering a positive learning environment.
Critical Thinking Development: Guiding students to analyze information, solve problems, and make sound judgments.
Organization and Preparation: Being well-prepared for tutoring sessions and providing structured learning materials.
Patience: I believe one MUST be patient to understand where the confusion may lie and how to better assist for that topic.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

During my clinical rotations, I recall a challenging situation involving a patient with multiple comorbidities. The patient's condition deteriorated rapidly, requiring quick thinking and coordinated teamwork. It was a high-pressure scenario, but it reinforced the importance of a strong foundation in pathophysiology, pharmacology, and assessment skills. This experience highlighted how crucial it is for nursing students to not just memorize facts but to truly understand the underlying principles so they can adapt to unpredictable situations. It's a lesson I emphasize in my tutoring: nursing is about critical thinking and problem-solving, not just following protocols.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

Nursing education presents several challenges. One significant difficulty is the sheer volume of information students must absorb in a relatively short period. Balancing theory with clinical practice and developing strong clinical judgment can be overwhelming. Additionally, the ever-evolving nature of healthcare requires nurses to be lifelong learners, constantly updating their knowledge and skills. As a tutor, I sometimes face the challenge of helping students overcome test anxiety and develop effective study habits.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion lies at the intersection of teaching and nursing. I am deeply passionate about empowering future nurses to provide safe, competent, and compassionate care. While I enjoy specific aspects of nursing, such as critical care, it is the act of sharing knowledge and guiding students toward their professional goals that truly fulfills me. Seeing a student gain confidence and succeed is incredibly rewarding, and it reinforces my belief in the power of education.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

Beyond my academic credentials and clinical experience, I believe my dedication to student success sets me apart. I am committed to providing personalized and engaging tutoring that caters to individual learning styles. My approach emphasizes not just memorization but also critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and effective communication skills. I strive to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment where students feel empowered to ask questions, overcome challenges, and achieve their full potential. My goal is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to excel in their nursing careers and become exceptional healthcare professionals.
