About Fionn

I have taught undergraduate students since 2016, working at the University of Southampton and King's College, London. This has included giving them feedback on their essay-writing, and marking their essays. This means that I know exactly what it takes to write a top-level essay.

I also wrote 2-3 essays per week as an undergraduate at Oxford, which forced me to refine my technique!

About the lesson

Are you looking to improve your marks in any essay-writing subject (e.g. English or History?)

To improve your essays I offer a three-step plan:

1) *Diagnosis* - First, to determine how you can improve your essays and achieve the marks you are aiming for, we will review some of your previous writing together. By identifying your weaknesses, we can determine which skills you need to gain or develop.

2) *Technique* - Perhaps our diagnosis will show that you need to work on making a persuasive argument, or maybe we'll find that you're having problems giving your essays an effective structure. Whatever it is, I will clearly explain the technique(s) you need to add to your toolkit. This can include looking at examples of perfect essay technique, so you know what you're aiming for.

3) *Practice* - Once you understand the technique, you will need practice so you can master it. I will give you specially-designed exercises to hone your skills, and continue giving constructive feedback until you are happy with the progress you have made. This can include reviewing essays that you've written for coursework assignments.

Perfect! Genuinely incredible. I’ve only had two lessons so far however I have felt more listened too and helped than my A-Level teacher has done in the last year and a bit. Clearly diagnoses areas of improvement on my essay writing and provides achievable booster ideas with exact examples and ways to implement them, whether structural or more specific. Very friendly and informative, Fionn clearly knows how to teach on an individual level, and takes the time out of lesson to read your separate work to ensure the techniques he provides are catered to be exactly as required. His communication also makes it easy to make efficient notes and annotations, which I find extremely useful. I’ve already recommended him to one of my friends so I would definitely recommend to anyone who feels they need some help on essay writing in any of the subjects Fionn specialises in.

Perfect! I had the first free hour with Fionn, honestly I can't emphasise how much this first lesson helped me alot. his teaching technique is perfect for me.

I have been looking for a private tutor for along time and all the previous tutors I had always wasted the hour and never got anything from them.

I'm doing a master degree and in subject that is different than Fionn but he was still able to help so dont worry if your subject different.

I will still continue the lessons with Fionn especially that his price is good for university students.
