About Alexander
I grew up in Miami and just graduated from the University of Miami in May with a B.S. in Neuroscience and minors in Chemistry, Health Management & Policy, and Entrepreneurship. In August I will begin attending Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons in New York City. I have tutored throughout both high school and college as a past-time. I am often frustrated with the way some classes are taught and enjoy helping others learn outside of them using different approaches.

My tutoring approach is based on what I believe is the most effective approach to learning, the Socratic method. I encourage the student to reason their way into a specific concept or principle to understand why it exists rather than just giving them the information.
A typical lesson plan would start with questions to assess background knowledge on a topic and then lead into a conversation asking deeper questions and providing feedback to understand the concepts. After that, we would finish with some examples of practice problems to see how much they learned and what they need to continue working on.
My lessons can be applied to anyone from elementary to college age. Given that my background is in science and math during undergrad, that is my strong suit but I can also tutor other subjects. Since I am a recent college graduate, I understand that the old approach to teaching with a lecture and powerpoint slides during class is not effective anymore, this generation of learners needs a more personalized and hands-on approach to learning and I can provide that for my students.
