About Benjamin
I am an Industrial Engineering from Toronto and living in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I have a breadth of experience, from healthcare consulting to engineering graduate school where I helped develop search engines for a major bank. Most recently I was studying to become a high school mathematics teacher, but similar to my own experience in public education, found that large class sizes to be problematic and led me to decide against finishing the program.
In high school I was blessed that my parents would afford to send me to private school, where smaller classes sizes and a quieter class environment led me to succeed to achieving both the math and English awards. I hope to bring my passionate for learning and understanding to my students to give them the ability to succeed in solving novel problems and develop a sense of agency and confidence in their academic abilities.

"I only remember what I learned, not what I was taught"
Is a phrase that comes to mind. When I was in high school I tutored a student receiving 50's that started getting 100 on tests.
There is no secret to learning, if you practice what you are being tested on you will see improvements in your grades.
If you solidify your understanding of why something works you will see tremendous growth in confidence and ability.
I like to run sessions by students providing the questions or problems that we can solve together. I aim to teach you anything you want to learn about mathematics and give you the tools and strategies you need to improve. Because mathematics builds on itself, I strive to meet the student where they are at with their learning. Part of the reason for my own achievement is the amount of "stupid" questions I've asked and the amount of times I've "failed" or made a mistake. The more you try the more you learn. There is no shame in asking something silly or making mistakes. This is how everyone learns!
(Including robots!!!! - I'm happy to elaborate, if asked, but it's a little outside the scope of this section)

Perfect! Ben was excellent. I wanted a refresher of trig for a land surveying course I’m taking. Very knowledgeable and LOVES math!! He was also very easy to follow!
