About Aaliyah
With 5 years of teaching experience and over a hundred students guided, I bring a balanced approach that blends technical skill-building with expressive artistry. Lessons focus on key fundamentals like finger strength and independence, precise rhythm, reading fluently, and understanding musical structure, all of which are essential to confident playing. I believe that technique must serve musical expression, so I encourage students to explore dynamics, articulation, and tone color to bring pieces to life. Theory and ear training are incorporated to deepen comprehension, while improvisation is used as a tool for creative exploration. I customize lesson plans to suit each student’s interests—whether they prefer classical repertoire, jazz improvisation, or modern hits—making learning relevant and engaging. A particularly rewarding experience was supporting a student who struggled with performance anxiety; through gradual exposure and positive reinforcement, they went on to perform beautifully at their first recital. I help students set clear, achievable goals and cultivate disciplined practice habits that fit their lifestyles, ensuring continuous improvement. My piano teaching philosophy centers on the belief that learning music should be both structured and inspiring. I aim to provide lessons that are technically sound yet flexible enough to adapt to each student’s learning style, interests, and goals.
Whether students are beginners just learning to read music or more advanced players tackling complex pieces, I focus on clear explanations, hands-on practice, and positive reinforcement. I emphasize the importance of sight-reading, rhythm accuracy, and musical phrasing from the start, because these skills form the foundation of confident playing. To keep lessons enjoyable and relevant, I incorporate a variety of music genres and styles, including classical, jazz, pop, and film music, often using pieces the student loves. Creativity is also a key component; I encourage improvisation and simple composition exercises to help students develop their own musical voice.
One memorable achievement was preparing a teenager for a competitive music festival, helping them refine their technique and stage presence, which led to an outstanding performance and valuable growth in confidence. I utilize digital resources, from metronomes to recording apps, to enhance practice effectiveness. Above all, I want my students to leave each lesson feeling proud of their progress and excited to return.
