About Sophia
I am an International Baccalaureate 2025 graduate, currently on a gap year and applying to study dentistry at university for 2026 entry. For IB, I achieved a grade 7 in both Higher Level Chemistry and Biology in the new 2025 curriculum. I aim to provide support and boost confidence in both GCSE and IB Chemistry and Biology by focusing on understanding rather than memorisation, with a focus on practice questions and past papers to perfect exam technique.

I provide structured online tutoring in IB and GCSE Biology and Chemistry (ages ~14-18), tailored to each student’s individual learning needs and goals. My approach emphasises understanding over memorisation, helping students build a clear and lasting grasp of key scientific concepts before applying them effectively in exams. Before each lesson, I ask students what topics they would like to focus on and prepare targeted resources and materials in advance to ensure the session is as effective and engaging as possible. Lessons combine clear conceptual explanation with practice questions and past-paper work to strengthen exam technique and problem-solving skills. My teaching style focuses on practice questions and past papers paired with active recall, encouraging long-term retention and analytical thinking. I also provide additional resources that helped me during my May 2025 IB exams and 2023 GCSE exams, as well as practice questions and feedback outside of lessons to support progress. Lesson duration is flexible, typically ranging from 45-90 minutes depending on the student’s needs and schedule. Having been part of the first cohort to sit the updated IB Sciences curriculum, I am familiar with the new structure, assessment objectives, and question styles (including paper 1B). For IB students, I also offer guidance on Internal Assessments (IAs), including topic selection and experimental design to data analysis and evaluation, making sure all aligns with the IB marking criteria.
