About Garv
I am Garv Gaur, an International Master (IM) and active competitive chess player with a peak FIDE rating of 2401. I have competed in numerous strong international tournaments, including the Aeroflot Open, Abu Dhabi Masters, Paris Masters, Qatar Masters, and Dole Open. Currently I am studying in Shri Ram College of Commerce doing my undergraduate in BA (Hons.) Economics
Alongside my playing career, I have been coaching chess for over a year, helping local students improve significantly and reach around 1800 FIDE within a relatively short period. I have also gained experience assisting strong players with tournament and opening preparation.
My passion lies in strategic and positional chess, and I enjoy helping students understand the ideas behind the game rather than simply memorizing moves. I aim to make every lesson practical, engaging, and tailored to the student’s individual goals.

My classes focus on teaching you how to think and make decisions over the board, rather than simply memorizing openings or moves. As an active International Master and tournament player, I bring practical experience from high-level competitive chess into every lesson.
I specialize in strategic and positional chess, opening preparation, middlegame planning, and practical decision-making. Each class is personalized according to your level, weaknesses, and goals. I also provide relevant homework, game analysis, and tournament-specific preparation to help you apply what you learn.
What makes my coaching different is the focus on understanding the “why” behind every move. My aim is to make you a more independent, confident, and practical chess player—not just someone who knows more theory.
