About Rachel
I am a recent senior high school graduate of De La Salle University with honors and a 4.0 GPA in all my math subjects (except Pre-calculus 1: Analytic Geometry, in which I earned a 3.5 GPA). I have also competed in several mathematics competitions, including the International Singapore Mathematics Competition, where I received two bronze awards in Grades 6 to 7, and the Thailand International Mathematics Olympiad, where I received a bronze award and a merit award in the final round in Grades 11 to 12. I have also been informally tutoring my friends since Grade 6, and enjoyed it very much.

As someone who has tutored my friends for free since grade 6, I can understand why some kids feel like they have to give up on math because it's too confusing and makes their self-esteem drop. Hence, I believe my role as a tutor is not just to teach the material, but to help kids become more confident in their own ability to learn. I do this using my typical lesson structure:
First, we go through each question together, with me asking for and encouraging them to share their thought process on the question first.
Second, I do my best to incorporate their thought process into the solution, correcting any logical errors and explaining the reasoning behind the correct steps before moving on.
Third, again, I let them do most of the solving, working together step by step and giving gentle guidance until they've arrived at a correct solution.
Lastly, rather than moving on to the next question immediately, we explore alternative solutions to the problem to help them gain a deeper understanding and greater creativity in future problem-solving.
My lessons are mainly geared towards grades 4-10 mathematics, but depending on the coursework, I may be a bit more flexible.
