About Sorour
Hello, I’m Sorour, a multidisciplinary artist, bookbinder, and educator based in Canaipa / Russell Island, Qld. With over three decades of experience in the arts, my creative journey spans diverse cultures and practices, enriched by my time in Australia, the UK, Iran, and Lithuania. I hold a Master of Science by Research in Art from the University of Edinburgh, a Master of Visual Art by Research from Queensland College of Art, a Master of Art in Graphics, and a Bachelor of Art in Painting from Azad University. My formal training also includes Persian Calligraphy and pattern-drafting, which have added unique dimensions to my artistic practice. In 2024, I was honored to be a finalist in the Brisbane Portrait Prize. My work has been exhibited internationally, from Lithuania’s National Library to Edinburgh’s Tent Gallery and Brisbane’s Petrie Terrace Gallery. I am passionate about not only creating art but also teaching it. My classes and workshops offer a relaxed and supportive environment where beginners and seasoned artists alike can explore their creativity with confidence. Whether through bookbinding, mixed media, or drawing, I aim to inspire others to express themselves and find joy in the artistic process. Let’s embark on this creative journey together!

In my art lessons, I strive to create a nurturing and inspiring environment that encourages creativity and self-expression.
My approach to tutoring is centered around personalized guidance tailored to each student’s individual needs and artistic goals. I employ a variety of techniques and methodologies, including hands-on demonstrations, and constructive feedback, ensuring that every student feels supported and empowered throughout their artistic journey.
Each lesson typically lasts for 1.5 hours, providing ample time to dive deep into the chosen medium—be it drawing, mixed media, or bookbinding. I believe in creating a relaxed atmosphere where students can explore their ideas without fear of judgment, fostering a love for the creative process.
With my extensive background, including multiple master's degrees in art and years of international exhibition experience, I bring a wealth of knowledge to my teaching. My goal is to share not only technical skills but also the passion for art that drives me.
My lessons are designed for students of all levels, from complete beginners to more experienced artists seeking to refine their skills. Whether you’re a child, teenager, or adult, I welcome anyone eager to explore their creativity and develop their artistic abilities.
Join me at my studio on beautiful Russell Island or online for a transformative art experience that nurtures your unique artistic voice!
* Lessons can be conducted in a space on Queen Street in Brisbane CBD, subject to availability. Please arrange the time and date in advance, and I will confirm the space with the third party.
* The initial free lesson is a 30-minute video session where we can discuss your inspirations and the materials you'd like to explore. It’s also a great opportunity for me to answer any questions you may have.
