About Gioele

I was born in Rome and raised "on the border" of that fantastic city (nice as a tourist - a bit chaotic tho), so I speak Roman (it looks a bit of an angry language, but it's a very sexy accent), Italian and Salernitano (South Italian Dialect *italian intensifies*).

I speak English, French, Spanish and other weird things such as Latin, etc. I love teaching and I think I'm very energetic (a bit too much sometimes, but hey, at least it's fun).

I do believe in learning as an experience and fun: you wouldn't stay 1 or 2 hours with a person you can't bear doing something boring and "schoolish", so embrace the energy and start talking from the first class! (even if your first baby words are "pizza" and "berlusconi", that's fine, I'll allow it).

I am very dramatic. Very.
That's why I love role plays and drama.

You won't be able to learn a language by reading a book, you need to live it as much as possible, you need to experience it, as you were in Italy. And one week with me would be way cheaper than flying to Rome.

I love engaging and challenging - I love speaking but also listening is important as you need to do most of the talking - otherwise you could just put an Italian film while you eat your delusional plate of spaghetti and that's it, you learning!

I've been teaching for years, especially to Brits, and I love it. I know,I know, you may not be very good at learning a language (that's because you English, probably), but lemme tell you something, try, and see.

I also have degrees and certificates, but that's boring stuff, I can show you if you don't believe me.
Can't wait to see you guys!

Find out more about Gioele

  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I was born in Rome and raised by my South Italian parents (so yeah, basically I was born as a polyglot: Roman, Salernitano and Italian).
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

Dante Alighieri (he wrote Inferno guys, please don't disappoint me lol) is the one that shaped the Italian language as we know it today - but Berlusconi and Benigni are the main exporters of our culture, innit?
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

"Porca miseria": it's like "goodness me" but with a bit of spicy (also, if a non-native speaker said it, it'd be very funny).
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Jokes apart, knowing how to speak a language empowers you and open endless opportunities (as going and living in Italy! And properly pronounce all the 5342 types of pasta ofc).
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

Grammar plays a fundamental role in our language, and that may be a big obstacle (especially for Brits, sorry guys, I live in London and many of you told me that - but you just need to overcome the "fear of learning" another language, because you're just not used to it). Playing with grammar and learning to develop analogies will help a lot!
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

The student I'm most proud of is dyslexic: I had to deconstruct the language into the most simple basics and fundamentals (sounds, letters, syllables, etc). Now, she understands me speaking in ROMAN! And she can read and speak in Italian. It was (and still is) a long journey, but it's worth it :)
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

GO FOR IT GUYS! Living in the UK opened my mind and empowered my skills: that's why my students love the way I translate from Italian, because I like to be translating in a contextual way not in a "school based way". Living among French and Spaniards challenged me in learning more languages, and I tell you, the more you stay with Italians the more they'll be happy in speaking with you!!
  • What makes you a Superprof in language?

Being Italian is already a superpower: I can cook carbonara without cream, I make espresso to my students and I can speak with deaf people without knowing the sign language because of Italian gestures (well, actually I do know the Italian Sign Language, but that's another story). I hope to see you soon and have fun together!
