About Crystal
Hi, I'm Crystal! I'm a student at Cornell University, majoring in computer science and math with a particular interest in data science and AI. After high school and the college application process had ended, I realized I wanted to make others' experiences easier than mine and that being a tutor was one of the best ways to do so.
I'm fully committed to helping you learn and get the best scores you can achieve! My goal is for you to truly understand key concepts so you're equipped to creatively solve any problem that pops up. Most importantly, I want to help you develop a passion for math.
I love math and have been doing competition math since 3rd grade. Since then, I've done AMC 8, AMC 10, AMC 12, and have qualified for AIME, as well as the Harvard-MIT Math Tournament and Math Prize for Girls at MIT. Exam-wise, I received perfect score of 1520 on the PSAT including the math section, both Math SAT II tests, and a 790 on the SAT Math section as well as a 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam.
Currently, at Cornell, I'm a Tanner Dean's Scholar, an ambassador for the College of Arts & Sciences (go Big Red!), and a member of Women in Computing at Cornell. When I'm not studying or helping others accomplish their goals, you can find me hiking in the nearby state parks or outside playing Pokemon GO.

Before each lesson, I like to assign problems to be completed by session start, and any questions and misunderstandings to be messaged to me ahead of time. This way we can use our time more effectively and go over key concepts and potential roadblocks during the tutoring session instead of unnecessarily spending time on solo practice. By knowing concepts that you have trouble with, I’ll be able to focus on them during the session as well as create a personalized lesson plan and extra practice questions to ensure mastery.
However, it’s my strong belief that it’s not enough to get an exam question right, but to have true understanding on the ideas behind the problem and the ability to creatively apply it to other scenarios. For every concept, I’ll have you explain in your own words what it does and why it works before moving on. This is a collaborative process, and I want us to succeed together. My goal is for you to develop a comprehensive understanding in a fun and rewarding process.
