About Martin
I have a bachelor degree from the University of Oslo / University of Illinois in Musicology, and then jazz composition from the Norwegian Academy of Music. For many years, I have immersed myself in music theory, hearing, composition and improvisation with piano as my main instrument. I have written music for a number of larger ensembles, including The Norwegian Wind Ensemble. I work with different styles and am a bit of a generalist more than specialist. That said; Jazz and classical music are the worlds I understand the most.

I have developed my own pedagogical approach to music theory that focuses on playful exploration, improvisation and hearing. Concepts are explained through music examples, where we build up understanding gradually, adapted to the students level. When it comes to piano lessons, the focus will be on rehearsal techniques so that the student can make their own learning more effective. We will focus on the students interests. For example, the focus may be on note-based music, chord-based music or free improvisation. I will of course try to widen your horizon of interest and challenge you to explore new paths, as the world of music is vast and beautiful.
