About Russell

Unlock Your Musical Potential with a Seasoned Pianist!

Are you ready to dive into the world of jazz, gospel, and contemporary music? With over 20 years of experience, I bring a wealth of knowledge and passion to every lesson. As a University of Michigan graduate, I have honed my skills in harmony, improvisation, rhythm, and musical expression, and I'm eager to share them with you.

Here's what sets my teaching apart:

- Personalized online lessons tailored to your level, whether you're a complete beginner or an advanced musician.
- A practical and encouraging approach that focuses on playing music, not just memorizing exercises.
- Bilingual instruction in English and Spanish, connecting with students worldwide.

My journey includes performing and collaborating with Grammy winners like Stacey Barthe and Nicole Zuraitis, and sharing the stage with legends such as Dr. Eric B. Turner and Ayana George. I've even graced national TV on The Tamron Hall Show with Billboard #1 artist Tyler Herndon.

Join me to explore your musical journey and make real progress. Book your lesson today and start playing the music you love!

About the lesson

Unlock Your Musical Potential Today!

Are you ready to become a confident, independent musician? My lessons are designed just for you, tailored to your level and goals. Whether you're a beginner or advanced, I offer a personalized approach to help you thrive.

Here's what we can explore together:
• Jazz harmony and chord voicings
• Gospel piano techniques and stylistic vocabulary
• Playing by ear
• Improvisation
• Practical music theory
• Rhythm and groove development
• Repertoire building
• Technique and musical expression

For beginners, we'll build strong foundations step by step. If you're more advanced, we'll refine your sound, expand your harmonic language, and develop your improvisational voice. Each lesson is structured yet flexible, ensuring you leave with clear exercises and practical applications to use immediately at the piano.

I believe learning music should be both challenging and enjoyable. Let's make it inspiring too! Your first lesson is a chance for us to discuss your goals and create a clear plan moving forward.

Perfect! I've been taking piano lessons with Russell for about two months now, and I can honestly say it's been excellent! As a complete beginner, I was a little nervous starting out, but Russell's patience and encouragement made me feel at ease right from the first lesson.

I've learned so much more than I ever expected. Russell has a wonderful way of making each lesson exciting and engaging — I always show up ready to learn and leave feeling accomplished. He has a true gift for teaching, breaking things down in a way that's easy to understand without ever making you feel rushed.

If you're looking for a piano teacher who is knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely passionate about helping his students grow, I can't recommend Russell enough. I look forward to every single lesson!

Russell is not only a great music teacher, he's a really interesting thinker and always has valuable insight when answering all my questions. His knowledge of theory is super deep. He's a pianist of really high caliber and has performed in venues all over, he helped me so much with my jazz vocal technique, he helped me lay chords underneath my melodies in my compositions, created piano backing tracks for my songs, helped me understand jazz, and much more. He even taught himself Spanish and is now fluent, and he tutored my kids when they were struggling.
Russell is really smart, shows up on time, he's super responsible and responsive. Just a very high quality musician, teacher and intellect, all at a reasonable price. 11 stars out of 10!
