About Jocelyn
I am a civil engineering student as the University of Nottingham and have for 4 years, informally provided maths tuition within my previous school under a mentor system and also privately, outside of this. My own knowledge has personally been due to quantity of effort rather than overwhelming natural flare, therefore I would suggest this allows me a unique stance which is that I have also struggled within my chosen subjects at given points. I believe this provides me with the ability to emphasise with students and their struggles. As a result of this, a large proportion of my work with students has so far been to help them achieving their required grade with comfort rather than aiming to excel (although this is always in sight), with the two student I helped this year alongside my alevel exams both achieving a grade 6 which they were delighted with!

My teaching methodology is to firstly build the confidence of the student as I understand the lack of it to be a detrimental barrier to their progress. I aim to do this through enforcing a positive attitude, always identifying strong points in knowledge and understanding and recognising how it came about, and from this, tackling those areas that are not viewed so well. I also believe it to be important, for progress to occur, to identify the methodology's which work best for an individual and using a combination of learning techniques, tailored to the individual to allow the best scope for learning
