About Yumin
I'm Korean-Canadian and a native speaker of standard Seoul Korean based in Toronto. I'm an instructional designer with a TESOL certificate from Trinity College London and 10+ years teaching and training adults, from coaching flight attendant candidates in Seoul to designing onboarding programs at IDP Education. I also interpret between Korean and English, both consecutively and simultaneously, so I know what real fluency asks of a learner and how to get you there step by step. I'm patient and warm, and I like making Korean feel less intimidating.

Most tutors will tell you their lessons are personalized. Designing learning is my actual job, so here is what that looks like in practice.
In our first lesson we map your goal: reading Hangul, talking with your partner's family, traveling, working with Korean colleagues, or preparing for TOPIK. I then build a short plan so you know what we're working toward and why. Every lesson ends with a quick recap and one or two things to practice, and every five lessons we check your progress against your goal and adjust.
Because I studied English Language and Literature, I know how English speakers process language. I can usually see where you'll get stuck before you do, whether it's particles, word order or honorifics, and I explain it in a way that makes sense in English. Beginners through advanced learners are welcome, including advanced discussion on Korean society, culture and current issues.
If you work with Korean colleagues, clients or partners, I also teach business Korean: meetings, email, politeness levels and the unwritten rules of Korean workplaces. I've interpreted meetings between Korean and Canadian teams, so we practice the situations you actually face at work.

Details
Free 30-minute first lesson to talk about your goals and try a short mini-lesson. Online lessons are $30/hour and in-person lessons in Toronto are $35/hour. Packs save you more: 5 hours for $140 and 10 hours for $270. Please give 24 hours' notice to reschedule or cancel; late cancellations are charged as a full lesson.
