About Hwa
My name is Hwa.
I am 20 years old, 2nd year environmental science student.
I have achieved a level 7 in IB maths [top grade is 7] and grade 8 in GCSE maths.
In my past tutoring experiences, my goal was to always build up my student's confidence so they are able to go to an exam without feeling stressed.
I have always excelled and loved maths since as a young child, It was one of my favorite topics, as there was only a clear definite answer, unlike English. Around the house, I would try and help my mom and my younger sister understand the basics. We agreed that maths is like learning a new language, it can be hard and stressful, but it's mostly confidence-building. I have helped multiple people and friends with their maths all of which have improved immensely. I can definitely relate to struggling in maths, as it can be a hard topic, but with some slow dissecting if the questions and methods, we can definitely power through it together!
My love of maths made me pursue my interest in engineering, hence why I am currently studying civil engineering at university. Geography has been my 2nd favorite topic, especially the social aspect.

The typical length of a lesson is 1 hour - 2 hours, depending on the student's choice, and my availability.
I am willing to teach all students from primary to GCSEs. I understand that maths can be hard, as it is like learning a completely new language. I am a very patient teacher.
My lessons are coordinated by the students themselves, as I will best try to tailor to their needs, and what they want to focus on in that lesson. I will ask you which subtopics are your strengths and weaknesses so that we can focus on the parts you are stuck on. If you don't know, that's alright! With maths, I am happy to go through certain topics in which they aren't confident, past papers, and homework help.
I have been tutoring since I was in Year 9, volunteering at school to help new year 6s who were struggling. I have been in the top set from years 7-13. I have completed projects such as Saturday School, teaching and tutoring students in STEM. As well as helping my younger sister level up her confidence in maths, as the pandemic disrupted her learning. Last year we were working to improve her exam results so that she was able to take higher maths, which I am proud to say she was moved up a set and her exam scores went up 2 levels.
