About Lisa
I have led worship music within a Latin community for years, and that warm, communal background shapes almost everything about how I teach Spanish today. Thirteen years into teaching now, I've worked with about three hundred students, many of them drawn to connecting authentically with family or community, not just academic language study alone. My community background gives me genuine, lived insight into building learners who connect Spanish to real relationships and genuine belonging. I work particularly well with students seeking a warm, supportive, community-minded learning environment rather than a purely academic or isolated one. My teaching style is warm, patient, and genuinely nurturing, built on years of teaching learners of every skill level within a real, supportive community setting. I have guided numerous students toward genuine fluency and real cultural connection, watching many build meaningful relationships with family and community through their growing language skill. Years leading worship music in a Latin community shape a teaching approach built around warmth, community, and genuine cultural connection rather than isolated, purely academic study alone. Lessons often incorporate community and family themes, since Spanish, in my community's experience, exists fundamentally as a language of connection and genuine relationship rather than pure academic subject matter. Vocabulary grows around family, community, and everyday warmth, genuinely useful, practical words many students specifically want for connecting authentically with Spanish-speaking family or community members. Grammar gets taught patiently and thoroughly, since years of teaching within a diverse community taught me exactly how to build genuine competence without discouraging anyone along the way. I encourage students to think about language as a bridge to real relationships, not just an abstract skill to be mastered for its own sake alone. Listening practice uses real community conversation and warm, everyday media, exposing students to natural, authentic Spanish within a genuinely communal, relational context. I keep lessons warm and encouraging throughout, reflecting years of nurturing learners of every skill level within a real, supportive community environment.
