About Sinéad
I am currently a second-year law student at the University of Aberdeen, having previously achieved an A* in A Level English Literature. English Literature has always been a subject I particularly enjoyed because of the opportunity to explore different interpretations, develop arguments, and engage with texts I might not naturally gravitate towards when reading.
Alongside my academic experience, I have several years of experience in Speech and Drama, achieving a Distinction in Grade 6 Speech and Drama with LCM. I also took part in a peer tutoring and mentoring programme while at secondary school, where I supported other students with English reading and Mathematics. I particularly enjoyed helping students work through topics they initially found difficult and seeing their confidence improve.
I want to tutor because I know that English Literature can sometimes feel much more difficult than it needs to be. It can be frustrating when you understand a text but aren't sure how to turn your ideas into the kind of analytical, well-structured answer that an exam board is looking for.
I want to help students develop the confidence to form their own interpretations and express them effectively, rather than relying on memorised essays or predetermined answers. I particularly enjoy helping students identify where they can improve and showing them practical ways to make their writing more analytical and convincing.

My lessons are tailored to each student's individual needs, whether they are looking to build confidence, improve their essay writing, strengthen their textual analysis or prepare for exams. I teach GCSE and A Level English Literature, adapting lessons to each student's ability, exam board and set texts.
My teaching approach is interactive and student-focused. Rather than providing model answers for students to memorise, I encourage them to develop their own interpretations and arguments, and to understand how to communicate them effectively. Lessons can include close analysis of passages and quotations, discussion of different interpretations, essay planning, practising exam questions and working through feedback to identify how answers can be improved.
A typical lesson will last one hour, with the content adapted depending on the student's needs and goals. For example, a lesson might focus on developing a particular essay skill, while others might involve revising a specific text or preparing for an upcoming exam.
I achieved an A* in A Level English Literature and have several years of experience in Speech and Drama, including a Distinction in Grade 6 Speech and Drama with LCM. I also have previous tutoring experience through a peer tutoring and mentoring programme at secondary school, where I supported other students with English reading and Mathematics. This gave me experience adapting explanations to different students and helping others build their confidence.
My lessons are aimed at GCSE and A Level English Literature students of different abilities, whether you are struggling with the subject, looking to improve your grades, or aiming for the highest mark bands. Lessons are available in Aberdeen or online.
