About Alex

Hi I’m Alex, a French native living in the UK. I’m not just a teacher; I’m a people person, entrepreneur, and mentor who loves helping others achieve their goals. My journey as a coach and mentor taught me to listen deeply, understand individual motivations as well as tailor solutions for success, and I bring this same energy to my French lessons.

I now also support A level and GCSE students with conversation-led exam preparation (AQA, Edexcel, OCR): speaking, listening, reading, translation and essay skills.

I didn’t learn English the traditional way. I struggled in school with rigid, textbook-focused learning, but I thrived when I found methods that were fun, conversational, and practical. Now fluent, I know firsthand how to make language learning approachable and effective. I want to do the same for you by tailoring lessons to your unique learning style, goals, and interests.

For exam students, that means real speaking practice, mark-scheme based feedback, and simple explanations for the grammar you actually need to score higher.

I’ve been teaching French independently for several years under French with Alex.

How Exam Support Works (A level & GCSE)

- Weekly speaking practice with photo cards, stimulus discussions and IRP coaching.

- Listening and reading strategies for gist and detail, using past papers and topical resources.

- Translation both ways with sentence patterns that guarantee marks.

- Essay planning for set text or film: clear structure, key quotes, theme analysis.

- Targeted grammar only when it helps your score: tenses, si clauses, pronouns, connectors, subjunctive triggers.

- Homework marking with mark-scheme style feedback and model answers.

  • 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

    1. It’s my native language, but I also struggled when I was learning English. I only became fluent once I moved away from rigid textbooks and focused on real conversations. That experience shaped the way I teach French today.
  • 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

    2. OSS 117 comes to mind. He’s a caricature of old-school France and plays on clichés people often expect. I like to use him as a contrast: I teach modern, useful French that helps you at a party, in daily life, or at work, not outdated stereotypes.
  • 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

    3. I really like the French tradition of long meals where people spend hours talking. It shows how much French culture values conversation and connection. Language isn’t just words, it’s how relationships are built.
  • 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

    4. Because French isn’t just grammar and rules, it’s a way to connect with people. For me, it’s about helping others feel confident in real-life conversations.
  • 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

    5. The biggest challenge is confidence. Learners often know more than they think, but hesitate to speak. What helps most is practising in a safe space where mistakes are normal.
  • 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

    6. When I was learning English, I could write essays but froze in real conversations. That’s why I make conversation the centre of my French lessons. It’s what truly builds fluency.
  • 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

    7. Every time I return to France, I notice how alive the language is, new slang, expressions, and cultural references appear all the time. That’s why I keep lessons focused on modern, living French instead of only textbook French.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof in language?

    8. I’m not just a teacher, I’m a coach. I listen, adapt, and make sure every lesson feels like a real conversation, not a grammar lecture. My students leave with confidence and phrases they can use immediately.
