About Aidan
- What kind of experience do you have? I have many years of experience with a wide range of students. In recent years I have been teaching adult students one-to-one and in small groups online at all levels from post-beginner to advanced. Since 2016, I've had contracts to teach workers at Siemens Energy and other international companies. I have some long-term private students too. I produce multilingual videos and podcasts for my YouTube channel AOR Languages. I'm a successful YouTuber and experienced writer-photographer. - Where and with whom did you train? I am a rare example of someone who started German at school and has progressed to near-native speaker level. I studied Languages at Trinity College Dublin, spending time in West Berlin with frequent visits to Germany over the years. I have come on a long journey and I love to share my expertise, experience, tips and humorous stories with my students. I am a qualified teacher of Modern Languages, though I mostly teach adults. - Tell me about some of your current students. Many of my students work for German companies, where a knowledge of German is useful at all levels. Some of my private students have German-speaking spouses or partners. Others are simply interested in the culture of Germany and Austria. Some students have stayed with me for years and continue to enjoy practising and discovering the language with me.

What makes me different is that I am not just a tutor, I am also a content creator. I develop my own course content, selecting and adapting the most interesting and relevant material from the media for my students to learn from. In a typical session, we focus on an interesting article, dialogue, audio or video. We study vocab and grammar, practise reading aloud, pronunciation, with question and answer, and we often gain fascinating new insights into the language and culture. It's always interesting and enjoyable and the time goes quickly. I'm keen for you to achieve your best possible pronunciation so I will often ask you to repeat lots of times. I write notes during each lesson and afterwards, I e-mail them to you, along with scripts, audio, video and follow-up activities such as question and answer. Where necessary after the lesson, I may record audio notes and read scripts aloud. You can download the recording so you can listen and practise pronunciation in your own time. Between lessons, it's essential to read, listen, watch and practise in your own time every day. I encourage and help you to do this.

I've been a student of Aidan's for around 5 years now.
I really enjoy his style of teaching with the focus on using real life videos and articles from written sources or radio. By focusing on this type of content, every lesson is different and I find I learn about the language and grammar in real life context, but also about the world in general! He puts an emphasis on using content that I find interesting which is also a nice touch.
He also creates small translation or question / answer activities for each piece of content which helps cement the learning.
I'd recommend Aidan to anyone wanting to improve their German but not in a boring textbook type of class!A big thankyou Aidan for my tutoring, I needed a refresher from the collage training I had years ago, your technical input has been so helpful also helping me in what computor programs to use. Details
The standard hourly rate is 35 pounds sterling. I may be able to offer a lower rate depending on the student's circumstances and location. All materials are included in the hourly cost. My students pay me mostly straight after the lesson by bank transfer or PayPal so we know where we're up to. Sometimes I record extra audio notes for individual students and groups, I make no extra charge for this.
