About Marian
I’m Marian — a passionate crafter and former Hollywood cake decorator (yes, I can teach you how to bake a show-stopping cake too!). I learned to knit and sew at 13 and have learned many creative hobbies along the way.
Knitting holds a special place in my heart — its rhythmic motion calms me, while a challenging pattern keeps me joyfully engaged. Being a knitter in New Zealand is a lovely harmony between craft and nature, I love interacting with the environment in a creative way. Nothing compares to the feeling of accomplishing something so beautiful from just a ball of yarn.
I’d love to share this craft with you and help you build confidence as a knitter — one stitch at a time.

Whether you want to knit your first scarf, cozy socks, or a cable jumper, I’ll guide you every step of the way!
Each lesson is tailored to your skill level and interests. I’ll help you choose the perfect project from my personal library of tried-and-true patterns and teach you everything from reading patterns to selecting the right yarn and needles. Along the way, you’ll pick up practical tips that make knitting not just easier, but genuinely enjoyable.
My goal is to make sure you feel confident, creative, and proud of every stitch you make — even the ones you have to redo!

This first lesson is free to allow you to get to know your teacher so that they can best meet your needs.

Details
Your first lesson includes a complimentary 30 minute consultation. In this timeframe, I will learn what you want to accomplish in your future lessons and what projects you're ready to start with. From there, I will suggest patterns, yarn, needles, and everything else in between! You'll be knitting in no time.
I can provide yarn, needles, and other notions for in-class use. However, I recommend that you come ready with your own supplies so you can work on your projects on your own time as well!
Eager to get started? Shop for your supplies with the shopping list below. This is enough for a lovely little scarf or cozy socks.
Beginner Shopping List:
- 8 ply 'DK/Double Knitting' ; 200 m. I suggest Merino Wool.
- 3.5mm 'US 4' ; 80 cm Circular Needles. I suggest Bamboo or Wooden needles for beginners.

*Beginner Lessons*
In a Beginner Lesson, I will teach you the foundations of knitting.
You will learn:
- How to cast on and knit
- How to hold your needles
- Choosing the right yarn and reading a yarn label
- How to read a pattern
- How to knit a gauge swatch

*General Lessons*
General lessons are a great option if you're looking to advance beyond knitting, purling, or simple projects. Whether you want to graduate from a scarf to a jumper, or looking to overcome advanced techniques such as cables and lace; I'll guide you along the way!

As you progress through your projects, we can check-in and see if you need help or assurance along the way.
This is a great time to overcome your fear of frogging (rip it, rip it, rip it), struggling to bind off, or just need a new set of eyes to look at your project.
