About Ishtar
I’m a native Cantonese speaker from Hong Kong, now based in Australia. I have a strong background in Chinese language and am fluent in English, so I’m comfortable explaining Cantonese clearly to English-speaking learners.
Professionally, I work in the medical field, but I’m teaching Cantonese because I genuinely enjoy the language and think it would be fun to help others learn it.
I’m friendly and flexible with lessons — whether you want to speak with family, prepare for a Hong Kong trip, use Cantonese at work, or finally understand what your Cantonese-speaking friends are saying!

My lessons are tailored to your goals, interests and level. Whether you want Cantonese for travel, business, daily life, friends and family, or just for fun, we’ll focus on what you’ll actually use.
I teach real, everyday Hong Kong Cantonese, with a focus on conversation, pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar. I can also tailor lessons to medical and healthcare Cantonese, drawing on my medical background.
And if you’re interested, we can explore Hong Kong slang and 粗口 (Cantonese profanity) — what it means, how locals use it, and when you definitely shouldn’t!
Complete beginners are welcome. Lessons can be explained in English with Jyutping to help with pronunciation.
