Find a private Chinese tutor in Tanglin

Chinese builds on a few core skills that every learner should master.

• Pinyin and tones: getting tones right early prevents confusion between similarly spelled words.
• Characters (hanzi): recognising radicals makes it easier to guess the meaning of unfamiliar characters.
• Vocabulary and grammar: understanding measure words and word order helps sentences sound natural.
• Listening and speaking: regular listening practice trains your ear for tones and natural speech patterns.

Once these fundamentals click, progress in Chinese speeds up.

A private Chinese lesson in Tanglin costs approximately S$30/h.

Several factors influence the price:

• Your child's level (PSLE, O-Level, Higher Chinese)
• The teacher's expertise and background
• The package you choose (one-off or regular)
• Where the sessions take place

Most teachers offer a free trial lesson so you can test their approach.

Learning Chinese quickly comes down to consistent, focused practice.

• Daily immersion: short daily listening sessions build familiarity with tones and rhythm faster than occasional long study sessions.
• Active speaking practice: practising conversation with a tutor corrects pronunciation before bad habits form.
• Spaced repetition: flashcard apps combined with regular review speed up character recognition.
• Structured lessons: a clear syllabus covering tones, characters and grammar in order avoids wasted effort.

With a tutor's guidance, practice time turns into visible progress much faster.
