Find your private English tutor in Novena

Doing well in English starts with mastering grammar, vocabulary and comprehension.

• Grammar: accurate sentence structure, correct tenses and subject-verb agreement form the backbone of good writing.
• Vocabulary: building vocabulary through reading helps students tackle unfamiliar words in exam passages.
• Comprehension: understanding a passage's tone and inference questions is key to scoring well in comprehension sections.
• Essay writing: planning an essay before writing helps students organise ideas and stay on topic.

Once these English fundamentals click, progress in school speeds up.

In Novena, expect to pay about S$33/h for an hour of English.

The cost depends on:

• Your child's grade and learning goals
• The tutor's experience and qualifications
• The package you choose (one-off or regular)
• Where the sessions take place

Online lessons are often more affordable while remaining effective.

Whether tuition is necessary depends on a student's current level and exam goals.

• Grammar gaps: a tutor can target recurring errors that a busy classroom teacher may not have time to fix.
• Exam technique: structured practice with a tutor builds exam strategies that schools don't always cover in depth.
• Confidence: regular practice in a low-pressure setting helps nervous students speak and write more freely.
• Pace: lessons can focus entirely on the areas where a student struggles most.

If exam pressure is rising, a private tutor offers focused, judgement-free support.
