About Sian
Hi, I'm Dr. Sian Martin. I have a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, a masters of research degree and a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Portsmouth. I am an active academic researcher with my current research investigating the connection between specific DNA mutations and rare genetic disease. The best thing about this career path is the endless pursuit of learning. As scientists we never stop learning new things, even within our specialist field. It's this passion for both biology and learning that I would like to pass on to as many people as possible (insert dad joke about viruses). It is my mission to instil the enthusiasm that I have found and help students truly understand the subject matter, making essay writing and exams easier and maybe even pleasurable.

Hi, I'm Sian, An experienced Molecular Biologist and active researcher with a PhD in molecular biology. I have over 10 years experience in one on one tutoring and mentoring. I also have extensive experience in scientific writing and coaching in scientific writing at degree level and higher. Session length - 60 mins GCSE/A-level subjects - Biology, Chemistry, Essay writing, exam prep and University applications/interview prep. Undergraduate degree subjects - Biochemistry, Molecular biology, Developmental biology, Cell biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Academic writing and research. I don't believe in a one size fits all approach to teaching, therefore my lessons are tailored to each student's needs and preferred learning style. All prospective students will have a free 30 minute Zoom call with me to give us a chance to introduce ourselves and discuss your needs. - What subjects/level you would like to be tutored in? - What areas you need the most help with? - What parts of the subject have you enjoyed the most in the past and why? - What parts of the subject have you not enjoyed in the past and why? - How many sessions would you like and how often? At this point we will also discuss availability and find a time and a day for the sessions that suits both of us. I will then design a course plan tailored to you which will include lessons, workshops and other interactive learning activities and training sessions which will fit in to your tutorial schedule. I should mention that this plan is entirely flexible, so if you find that something pops up in the year that you want to add to the plan such as help with coursework assignments I will be happy to do that.
